University Teams are arriving to the 9th European Universities Handball Championship

Today the groups draw will take place and tomorrow the competition kicks off

Almost all participating teams of the 9th European Universities Handball Championship have already arrived to Antequera (Malaga). The competition will take place from Monday to Saturday next week and more than 300 athletes will participate. In total, more than 400 participants will attend the Championship, taking into account participants, coaches and referees. There are 22 participating teams, 12 male and 10 female, representing 21 universities from 12 European countries. Matches will be held at the Fernando Argüelles Sports Hall, the Technified Indoor Athletics Sports Centre and also at the El Maulí Municipal Indoor Sports Centre.


On Sunday, the General Technical Meeting is scheduled at 18:00, and after it participants will know the final competition draw. The following day, the Opening Ceremony will be held at 19:00 at the Fernando Argüelles Sports Hall. The event will gather some of the most important national and local authorities, including the Mayor of Antequera, Mr Manuel Jesús Barón Ríos, the Chancellor of the University of Malaga, Mr José Ángel Narváez Bueno, and Mr Kemal Tamer, president of the SCAC and highest EUSA representative during the Championship. After the Opening Ceremony, the opening match will take place.


Regarding referees, they have been assigned by EUSA in collaboration with the European Handball Federation (EHF). They are all enrolled in the EHF youth refereeing program and have extensive international experience. The organization also relies on a great number of volunteers—72 between international and national ones.
